I may seem quiet, but I can shout loud,
I may appear weak, but my mind is strong,
I may, at times, be unable to verbalise my thoughts, but I am not voiceless,
I may become overwhelmed in everyday situations, but I can raise awareness so that others understand,
I may be particularly anxious over simplistic matters, but I take pleasure from the little things in life,
I may be frightened of social interactions, but I have found strategies to help me cope,
I may not be very popular, but I do have a couple of good friends who truly appreciate the complex wiring of my mind,
I may feel self-conscious, but I’ve been told I’m pretty and have a loving heart,
I may be painfully shy, but once I get to know people, I might not stop talking,
I may be easily fixated by people or objects, but I can use these to help mould my future,
I may experience intense emotions, but I can use these to inspire others.
I may have a disability, but I have amazing abilities.
Please do not give up on me,
You may choose to disregard my feelings, because I’m autistic,
You may think, because you’re ‘neurotypical’, you’re worth more than me,
But, I have a powerful connection with the outer world; one that you may never understand.
Please do not give up on me,
My feelings, thoughts and ideas can inspire the uninspired,
They can motivate the demotivated,
And they can educate the uneducated,
All I ask is for you to have faith in me and welcome my mind into the very ‘standard’ society
