An Autistic’s Journey Into Narnia

Written on 2nd Apr 2026 by Alex Lowery

I have been a fan of The Chronicles of Narnia ever since I was a child. I was first introduced to it through the BBC series.

As an autistic person, I struggled when I was younger to understand concepts that I couldn’t see or experience directly. I didn’t believe there were other countries, or that the world was round. I didn’t believe the Queen of Britain existed, or that the Middle Ages had ever happened. I also didn’t believe in God. I found it difficult to grasp the idea of things beyond my immediate experience.

This picture I took reminds me of Narnia

Believe it or not, The Chronicles of Narnia actually helped me begin to understand these concepts.

I was first introduced to Narnia when my dad told me part of the story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He replaced the names of the children with the names of me and my siblings.
