Alex gets his wish

If anyone has heard of Autism Wishes then you may know that they are a charity who provide wishes for people on the Spectrum. My wish was to have an Autism into Employment Conference. I wanted this because I am upset that only 15% of people with autism are in employment. We can do better than that!

I spent a long time worrying about getting a job and I am only in work because I am supported in my business by my family. I would like to see programmes across the UK like the Wirral Autistic Societies ‘Step into Work Programme’.

My mum has done a lot of work on arranging the conference but the Autism Wishes Team have been a big help giving us contacts and helping to fund it in a big way. We would like to see the conference become a yearly event. Flint Town Council have given us the venue free of charge and my MP Mr Hanson has been very supportive.

9.00 A.M Exhibitors arrive to set up

10.00 -10.45 refreshments and exhibits

10.45-10.55  Mr Hanson MP will open the event 10 minutes

10.55 -11.20  The positives of autism – Alex Lowery

1. Chartwells Independent

 

Steven, who is autistic, is a highly regarded member of the catering department.

 

2. Joe – whose egg round serves hundreds of appreciative customers and Joe and his mother reveal how it works and their plans to franchise the business model.

12.00 -12.45 Lunch will be provided

12.45-1.30  Bev Breen who manages the Wirral Autistic Societies award winning ‘Step into Work programme will talk about the programme. Two young people who have been through the programme will share their experiences.

1.30 -2.15 Alun Wilkins – Alun currently works for Remploy, he will be speaking about his experience in South Wales on running a support into employment programme. This talk will be particularly helpful to businesses.

2.15-2.30 Coffee break
