Alex’s trip to London – You can read part 1 here. Alex wants to keep on learning new skills and so decided he wanted to use this opportunity to practise following instructions. Ambitious About autism had sent some photo instructions, this was very helpful.
Alex found the photo directions a lot easier to follow.
This sign was confusing with the arrow pointing down. What does that mean?
Eventually Alex and Sylvia made it to the meeting.
Alex says, ” I was nervous about this new role, I find it hard to put myself into new situations. I was worried I would not be able to follow everything that was going on but the photos and information about all the other Youth Patrons made me feel a lot better. I was worried about the Tube, I find it very loud and I don’t like to be surrounded by a lot of people. I want to keep on learning new things so we decided I would try to follow all the directions AOA had sent. It was a lot easier because they had sent a lot of photos as well. I needed some help but I felt proud of all I had a achivied. I think concentrating on something helped me cope with all the crowds and noise on the Tube.”

Photos are a great way to plan. They help someone to know what is coming next. Great that you made it to the meeting and you are keen to keep learning.
