6 ways in which Wales is leading the way for Autism

The Welsh Assembly Government are seeking to raise understanding of autism and to provide greater opportunities for those who have autism.
1. Autism aware recognition – Organisations can receive ‘Autism Aware’ Certification’. It is simple to register for the scheme. Alex has created training that will prepare staff to take this online test.
2. Autism aware training for children –I know about autism courses are provided for children. Schools can sign up for the scheme. This is a really good way to enable schools to become more autism friendly. Alex is available to talk to school children and help raise understanding of autism.
3. A free ASD planner is provided – Individuals with autism often struggle to manage their time.
4. ASD Employment Ambassador – Robert Lloyd Griffiths is the first person in the UK whose main role is to encourage businesses in Wales to understand how they can benefit from the talents, skills and knowledge that people with autism can bring to the workplace. It is encouraging to see the Welsh Assembly Government taking employment and Autism so seriously. It would be good to see a scheme of individual support and training into work rolled out across the whole of Wales. Currently only 15 in a 100 individuals with autism are in full time employment across the UK.
5. ASD strategic action plan across Wales – Across Wales Professionals are working together to improve services for individuals with ASD.
6. Orange Wallet Scheme – This scheme has been put in place through the ‘All Wales Strategy’ it is a scheme that enables individuals with autism to use public transport across Wales. All staff who work in public transport have have received training on this scheme.
Wales is a beautiful country and it’s good to see efforts being made to improve life for those who have autism.

I have always felt that there should be someone somewhere giving advice to companies how good having someone with Autism could be a benefit to their company. Thanks Robert .
